10 Commandments for Conflict Resolution

No matter how hard we try to get along with people, conflict is inevitable. Conflict resolution between you and your team members is critical to your relationships with them and the long-term success of the team. Here are 10 ways to insure that your relationships flourish and your objectives are realized.

1. Follow the 1% Rule. Look for at least 1% of common ground with your adversary.
2. Love people more than your opinions.
3. Give people the benefit of the doubt.
4. Learn to be flexible.
5. Always leave an out for your adversary.
6. Check your own attitude.
7. Don't overreact.
8. Don't become defensive.
9. Welcome conflict. Iron sharpens iron!
10. Take a risk! Take the first step. Reach out to your adversary.

Our relationships are critical to achieving our dreams. Since we can't achieve our objectives alone, being well versed in conflict resolution will pay tremendous dividends.
